Description:
another architecturally inspired font. and a work in progress i suppose. all basic glyphs are done. but tweaks are needed :) i plan on doing uc with window and door symbols like the A. lc w/o. it's kind of messy right now with working versions of glyphs scattered at the end. maybe i'll clean it up when it's final :)

Hey F.K. this is terrriffic!I love the ratios -- weight of the dots and lines, proportions, everything about it is topnotch.

great idea, spectacular execution, amazing details... chapeau!
this actually reminds me of an idea i was doing sketches on some time ago: i wanted to do a set of punch-out sheets (is that the word?) with which you can build every letter in 3d. i abandoned it because i thought all the thin and dotted lines were impossible to make on fontstruct. obviously they aren't... i'm afraid i'll have to dig out those sketches and start working on it again. you probably just chained me to my computer for another 20 hours in the middle of summer, funk_king... ;)

@shasta - cool idea. press-outs, punch-outs, push-outs, cut-outs - all are just about the same except cut-outs requrie cutting tool vs the others are preforated. how do i know you ask? i collect the stuff - they really don't make 'em like they used to. most of my collection is vintage books of old school disney and hanna-barbera characters, some classic tv shows, and uh, a few paper dolls :) i like your sample - very unique and interesting idea. yes, longer than 20 hrs, but you won't be out in the hot heat :)

@ f.k.: great, looks like i've run into the expert for that kind of stuff... :) anyway, current extrapolations reduced the expected time horizon for fontstruction this thing, due to a lot of repetitive elements. i made it till "H" within not much more than 1 hour... here's what i have so far. shame i have to compromise that much on the counters, but it's just impossible to fill all their sides. anyway, feel free to try if they work if you feel like it... it's probably the most brain-stimulating fontstruction i've done so far, hehe.

I think I'd like to live in the 'Z' house. I wonder if I'd need to get a permit to put a deck on the back. What do the dotted vs. solid lines within the glyph represent? I take it the solid lines mean walls, but the dotted lines then?

room-separating curtains i guess? weird enough, from "I" on there are different weights of curtains too... pretty detailed plans. good architect. :)

@jet - they represent alternate walls - say for an office floor plan, like a cubicle/temporary wall. these are the initial set, i think if/when i go back and add doors and windows, some will make more sense - floor plan-wise. i think initially i was striving for a balance between creating realistic plans and clearing rendering each glyph. i started out thinking of each glyph as a floor plan for a house. the initial concept didn't fit for all, so i thought they could be for any type of dwelling - house, apartment, commercial, industrial/warehouse, recreation, etc. i think some could probably be combined to create larger structures... wait a minute, these are just glyphs, sorry :)

@fk:you can totally combine the glyphs to make new structures. The word DOG would make for an interesting dwelling. I have a Dover book from the '80's called Bizarre and Ornamental Alphabets ($10 at Amazon). It features an entire architectural alphabet. You'd love it. Here's a sample.

Being the aspiring architect that I was, and having spent countless hours drafting, I am so pleased to see this FontStruction. It brought back a lot of memories.

Your sense of proportion and balance is very pleasing to the eye. And the shapes themselves are rather nice. Awesome work.

Two suggestions: 1. Add doors and windows to every glyph for means of accessing the insides of the buildings of FontStructuria. 2. Provide additional glyphs in the shapes of landscape elements and furnishings that users could place as needed to liven-up the place.

@thal - yes, planning on adding door and window to uc. wasn't so sure about additional symbols - but i'll have to reconsider :)

stuff like this is what makes me wonder why isn't this place called FUNtstruct...
Anyway, this one caught my eye instantly.
And comparing it to afrojet's sample, I come to realize that funk_king's font (or FUNt, hehe!) is more like japanese housing and the one portrayed in the book is a lot more like gothic churches.
Really nice, FK!
