Then I just doodled some repeating patterns. Then I saw how I can fill the patterns inside the letters. They fit together pretty easily for vertical letters, but diagonals were really tricky. The end product resembled Hawaiian leis draped over each glyph. Very floral. So there you have it. Flowers. It's a solution to a fabricated problem. Getting the basic characters in, it is, evidently, not mono-spaced, even though all glyphs end at the same grid square on the right. One problem is the lack of control over the width of space. Other issues come up as well, such as the period (full stop) has to be way over there to the right of this font's grid to make it the same width as the rest of the characters.Conclusion? Mono-spaced fonts are just not possible in fontstruct at this point. :( Correct me if I am wrong. I've done quite enough "grasping at straws" fonts for the time being so here's one where I've curbed my instinct to intagliate my favourite glyphs. I'm trying to incorporate all the things I fancy in this sort of font without violating where FontStruct is willing to go. This is where most of my fonts fall down (and probably this one, too). Eventually I'll pare away all my affectations and I'll end up with a font that looks like... Helvetica.
