2 Downloads2%20Downloads23 Comments3%20Comments327 Glyphs27%20Glyphs27this started from mortar board. thanks to afrojet for suggesting this family :) i honesty thought mortar board would be a one shot, although i did like the simplicity in the original, it was very much captive to the mortar board. so the family actually starts here although this is actually the last clone i did of mortar board to complete the family. kinda full circle. i really feel most times any font can automatically be two or more. i find it interesting developing families and this is by far my largest. i also think it offers potential users more options. many of these are indulgences i suppose. with i guess is really any font. i mean, aren't they all just really ornamentation? even the most simplest? so with afrojet's marching orders i proceeded. the idea of these glyphs marching to commencement and ending with tossing the mb's in the air was cute :) after taking off the mb's, my next thought was make 'em fat and try to add some character to each set - not just a font for font sakes. but at the same time, not be afraid to explore a variation even though it may only be subtle changes that are made. whether the font has any value is left for the user to decide. i have found with these type of experiments to apply changes across the set vs. drilling down on each glyph. likewise though, i have found it useful to build out some glyphs to capture those flashes that come when working on individual glyphs. so i'm thinking about where i want to go with the family, i wanted to definitely go from thin to thick. so how? that said, i hope you enjoy these and maybe find one or two that are useful for you. i've tried to summarize each as follows: 1. mortar booted - the "1st" without the mb. 2. mortar booted separated - i pulled apart the sides to make them taller - i realized i would need more height in the upper/lower halves of the grid. 3. mortar booted separated filled - just filled in the spaces. 4. mortar booted separated inline - here i took the separated version and added an inline to the set. 5. mortar booted separated filled inline - just filled in the spaces. mortar booted separated inline stuck - when i cloned the separated inline version and with the default spacing at 0, i was intrigued by the effect so decided to make it a set. 6. mortar booted separated filled inline stuck - same with the clone of this one. liked it and made it another version. 7. mortar booted mission - ok, this one is a little ornamented. i kinds of reminds me of a space helmet from some sci-fi b-movie. this one is probably the most unique in the family just because of the additional elements used. on those glyphs that only had verticals, i ended up stretching them down or up to the level of the top or bottom "panels". i kinda like it :) 8. mortar booted thick - i finally got to the thick version by taking separated filled inline and filling in the inline :) 9. mortar booted thick modified - i decided to play with some of the thickness and saw potential in some glyphs to really add some character to the character :) 10. mortar booted thick modified stuck -
