4 Downloads4%20Downloads47 Comments7%20Comments766 Glyphs66%20Glyphs66The idea for the font came from looking at the curves in Wind ornaments. The block like structure of the wood and then the spiral effect. I also looked at Wooden table arrangments that resembled wood shavings, like ribbon curls. I wanted a contiuous theme to run through and link all the glyphs together. So i used the ribbon like structure as the backbone to all the uppercase and then serifs to link the Glyffs to each other. There is also a suggestion of movement in the style, as it is italic. I kept the decorative theme as well, to stay true to the concept behind the idea. This is a display font with a limited and definate purpose.The%20idea%20for%20the%20font%20came%20from%20looking%20at%20the%20curves%20in%20Wind%20ornaments.%20The%20block%20like%20structure%20of%20the%20wood%20and%20then%20the%20spiral%20effect.%20I%20also%20looked%20at%20Wooden%20table%20arrangments%20that%20resembled%20wood%20shavings%2C%20like%20ribbon%20curls.%20I%20wanted%20a%20contiuous%20theme%20to%20run%20through%20and%20link%20all%20the%20glyphs%20together.%20So%20i%20used%20the%20ribbon%20like%20structure%20as%20the%20backbone%20to%20all%20the%20uppercase%20and%20then%20serifs%20to%20link%20the%20Glyffs%20to%20each%20other.%20There%20is%20also%20a%20suggestion%20of%20movement%20in%20the%20style%2C%20as%20it%20is%20italic.%20I%20kept%20the%20decorative%20theme%20as%20well%2C%20to%20stay%20true%20to%20the%20concept%20behind%20the%20idea.%20This%20is%20a%20display%20font%20with%20a%20limited%20and%20definate%20purpose.

38 Downloads38%20Downloads3823 Comments23%20Comments2355 Glyphs55%20Glyphs55I made this for my UWE graphic design first year project "communicating with words". I created this inspired by influences from Ralph steadman and Jackson pollock using the concept of inconsistansy and randomized mark making with ink. the name is derived from a quote from the book "fear and loathing in las vagas".
I designed it by firstly creating the text with a pot of ink and the back side of a biro pen, then from that i drew them by hand onto A4 sheets of graph paper limitating each line to only 4 given angles, then finally transfering that onto fontstruct wich took roughly 30-40mins per letter.
Enjoy!I%20made%20this%20for%20my%20UWE%20graphic%20design%20first%20year%20project%20%22communicating%20with%20words%22.%20I%20created%20this%20inspired%20by%20influences%20from%20Ralph%20steadman%20and%20Jackson%20pollock%20using%20the%20concept%20of%20inconsistansy%20and%20randomized%20mark%20making%20with%20ink.%20the%20name%20is%20derived%20from%20a%20quote%20from%20the%20book%20%22fear%20and%20loathing%20in%20las%20vagas%22.%20%0D%0AI%20designed%20it%20by%20firstly%20creating%20the%20text%20with%20a%20pot%20of%20ink%20and%20the%20back%20side%20of%20a%20biro%20pen%2C%20then%20from%20that%20i%20drew%20them%20by%20hand%20onto%20A4%20sheets%20of%20graph%20paper%20limitating%20each%20line%20to%20only%204%20given%20angles%2C%20then%20finally%20transfering%20that%20onto%20fontstruct%20wich%20took%20roughly%2030-40mins%20per%20letter.%20%0D%0AEnjoy%21

10 Comments10%20Comments1027 Glyphs27%20Glyphs27I began by exploring the theme of decaying objects, such as fruit, and studied the shape (and change of shape) of the objects, as they progressivly fell apart. By creating hand drawn sketches i began to create a typeface that looked as though it was rotting/melting away. I used a traditional typeface, Times New Roman, that could be considered as quite boring and a font which has been around for a long time and then used it as a base font which i then made to look as though it was rotting and falling apart by refering back to my earlier sketches. Overall I aimed to create a typeface that represents the decay of an older, more traditional and perhaps overused typeface.I%20began%20by%20exploring%20the%20theme%20of%20decaying%20objects%2C%20such%20as%20fruit%2C%20and%20studied%20the%20shape%20%28and%20change%20of%20shape%29%20of%20the%20objects%2C%20as%20they%20progressivly%20fell%20apart.%20By%20creating%20hand%20drawn%20sketches%20i%20began%20to%20create%20a%20typeface%20that%20looked%20as%20though%20it%20was%20rotting%2Fmelting%20away.%20I%20used%20a%20traditional%20typeface%2C%20Times%20New%20Roman%2C%20that%20could%20be%20considered%20as%20quite%20boring%20and%20a%20font%20which%20has%20been%20around%20for%20a%20long%20time%20and%20then%20used%20it%20as%20a%20base%20font%20which%20i%20then%20made%20to%20look%20as%20though%20it%20was%20rotting%20and%20falling%20apart%20by%20refering%20back%20to%20my%20earlier%20sketches.%20Overall%20I%20aimed%20to%20create%20a%20typeface%20that%20represents%20the%20decay%20of%20an%20older%2C%20more%20traditional%20and%20perhaps%20overused%20typeface.
