86 Downloads86%20Downloads867 Comments7%20Comments7161 Glyphs161%20Glyphs161The Chesterfield Royal Family was formed from my desire to add new weights to the original Chesterfield typeface. In the process of drawing these new weights, I began modifying some of the forms of the new glyphs away from the original Chesterfield glyphs in order to build a more flexible brick/grid structure for the development of various weights. The most noticeable difference between these three new faces and the original is the lowered x-height. That said, there are still some compromises between the different weights and because of that I've given them these royalty names instead of the normal practice of light, regular, and bold weight names. One of the biggest compromises occurs in the Prince weight, where I was unable to add the notch where bowls and shoulders meet stems (see King and Queen weights) without adding too much extra black weight to those parts of the glyph.

A work in progress for sure. Any help/thoughts/repulsions/bile appreciated.

This FontStruction is loosely based on van Doesburg's alphabet of 1919. I have not followed his strict grid of 25 x 25 (unlike Freda Sack and David Quay's revival, Architype Van Doesburg, or P22's De Stijl Regular) -- in other words, some of my caps and numerals deviate from van Doesburg's original design. Also, I've added a lower case and diacritics (which I am currently updating).I.K.%20Bonset%20was%20the%20pseudonym%20that%20%3Ca%20href%3D%22http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FTheo_van_Doesburg%22%3ETheo%20van%20Doesburg%3C%2Fa%3E%20used%20to%20publish%20%20Dada%20poetry%20in%20his%20magazine%20%3Ca%20href%3D%22http%3A%2F%2Fsdrc.lib.uiowa.edu%2Fdada%2FDe_Stijl%2F%22%3E%3Cem%3EDe%20Stijl%3C%2Fem%3E%3C%2Fa%3E.%0D%0A%0D%0A%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EThis%20FontStruction%20is%20loosely%20based%20on%20van%20Doesburg%27s%20alphabet%20of%201919.%20I%20have%20not%20followed%20his%20strict%20grid%20of%2025%20x%2025%20%28unlike%20Freda%20Sack%20and%20David%20Quay%27s%20revival%2C%20%3Ca%20href%3D%22http%3A%2F%2Fwww.foundrytypes.co.uk%2Ffoundry_architype_1%2Fvan_doesburg.html%22%3EArchitype%20Van%20Doesburg%3C%2Fa%3E%2C%20or%20P22%27s%20%3Ca%20href%3D%22http%3A%2F%2Fwww.p22.com%2Fproducts%2Fdestijl.html%22%3EDe%20Stijl%20Regular%3C%2Fa%3E%29%20--%20in%20other%20words%2C%20some%20of%20my%20caps%20and%20numerals%20deviate%20from%20van%20Doesburg%27s%20original%20design.%20Also%2C%20I%27ve%20added%20a%20lower%20case%20and%20diacritics%20%28which%20I%20am%20currently%20updating%29.
