"~" is a space without a drip. "-" is a beginning splat, and periods, exclamation points, and question marks are closing splats. "|" is a close without a splat. "_" is a drip that you can add to the character before it. For example, you might think the drips in "banana" are too repetitive, so you can use "n_" instead of "N" to get an n with a different drip. 78 Downloads78%20Downloads7810 Comments10%20Comments10206 Glyphs206%20Glyphs206I've added a side shadow to Prometheus. The inspiration was a typeface from the French type foundry Peignot. Identified as "No. 1229" in their Lettres Fantaises of 1896, it sports a very fine side shadow, which I've attempted to re-create here. (I found the "No. 1229" sample on Hoefler & Frere-Jones' blog - fifth image from the top.)

This FontStruction is split in two to make downloading possible. The Basic Set (this half) features all of the Basic Latin and More Latin characters, while the Extended Set has all of the Extended Latin A and several Extended Latin B characters (Latin-based diacritics for the Central European, West European, Baltic, and Romanian languages, plus special characters for Croatian, Slovenian, and Livonian, among others).I%27ve%20added%20a%20side%20shadow%20to%20%3Ca%20href%3D%22http%3A%2F%2Ffontstruct.fontshop.com%2Ffontstructions%2Fshow%2F80235%22%3EPrometheus%3C%2Fa%3E.%20The%20inspiration%20was%20a%20typeface%20from%20the%20French%20type%20foundry%20Peignot.%20Identified%20as%20%22No.%201229%22%20in%20their%20%3Cem%3ELettres%20Fantaises%3C%2Fem%3E%20of%201896%2C%20it%20sports%20a%20very%20fine%20side%20shadow%2C%20which%20I%27ve%20attempted%20to%20re-create%20here.%20%28I%20found%20the%20%22No.%201229%22%20sample%20on%20%3Ca%20href%3D%22http%3A%2F%2Fwww.typography.com%2Fask%2FshowBlog.php%3FblogID%3D34%22%3EHoefler%20%26%20Frere-Jones%27%20blog%3C%2Fa%3E%20-%20fifth%20image%20from%20the%20top.%29%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E%0D%0A%0D%0AThis%20FontStruction%20is%20split%20in%20two%20to%20make%20downloading%20possible.%20The%20Basic%20Set%20%28this%20half%29%20features%20all%20of%20the%20Basic%20Latin%20and%20More%20Latin%20characters%2C%20while%20the%20%3Ca%20href%3D%22http%3A%2F%2Ffontstruct.fontshop.com%2Ffontstructions%2Fshow%2F104169%22%3EExtended%20Set%3C%2Fa%3E%20has%20all%20of%20the%20Extended%20Latin%20A%20and%20several%20Extended%20Latin%20B%20characters%20%28Latin-based%20diacritics%20for%20the%20Central%20European%2C%20West%20European%2C%20Baltic%2C%20and%20Romanian%20languages%2C%20plus%20special%20characters%20for%20Croatian%2C%20Slovenian%2C%20and%20Livonian%2C%20among%20others%29.

39 Downloads39%20Downloads395 Comments5%20Comments598 Glyphs98%20Glyphs98This Fontstruction was produced after plugging in the Atari 2600 the other night and falling in love all over again with the minimalist simplicity of the game Breakout.

A little Jobs/Wozniak drama from the development story of the game Breakout:

"Breakout, a discrete logic (non-microprocessor) game, was conceptualized by Nolan Bushnell and Steve Bristow, after the latter had "rejoined" Atari after the merge of Atari subsidiary Kee Games.

"Al Alcorn was assigned as the project manager, and began development with Cyan Engineering in 1975. The same year, Alcorn assigned Steve Jobs to design a prototype. Jobs was offered USD$750, with an extra $100 each time a chip was eliminated from the prospected design. Jobs promised to complete a prototype within four days. Jobs noticed his friend Steve Wozniak—employee of Hewlett-Packard—was capable of producing designs with a small number of chips, and invited him to work on the hardware design with the prospect of splitting the $750 wage.

"The original deadline was met after Wozniak didn't sleep for four days straight. In the end 50 chips were removed from Jobs' original design. This equated to a $5000 USD bonus, which Jobs kept secret from Wozniak, instead only paying him $375."

57 Downloads57%20Downloads5717 Comments17%20Comments1767 Glyphs67%20Glyphs67There's no inspiration here other than a desire to create a stylized mono-spaced font that is legible at small sizes. It's a solution to a fabricated problem. Getting the basic characters in, it is, evidently, not mono-spaced, even though all glyphs end at the same grid square on the right. One problem is the lack of control over the width of space. Other issues come up as well, such as the period (full stop) has to be way over there to the right of this font's grid to make it the same width as the rest of the characters. Conclusion? Mono-spaced fonts are just not possible in fontstruct at this point. :( Correct me if I am wrong.
